Easy To Make Dalgona Coffee At Home!

Ever since the breakdown of Coronavirus and the apocalypse during the much needed Corona PAN Lockdown, people have been taking to social media with their simple and delectable recipes. While some people posted a lot of noodles, there were some who were diligently posting home-made nutritional Indian meals. In fact, some of my foodie friends shared impeccable recipes like Soya Shammi Kebabs to baking your own bread at home. But there was this one star that emerged from the background, becoming the most viral #dalgonacoffeechallenge on Instagram.

Dalgona Coffee, the frothy coffee mix put atop a layer of cold milk has gone viral on the social media platforms. People from all around the world participated in this #dalgonacoffeeftrend that started on TikTok. With over 10 million views, Dalgona coffee had to be one of my experiment in the kitchen, as well.

What is Dalgona Coffee?

Dalgona Coffee is a trend that began on TikTok which is a video generating platform. The trend was soon carried on by other social media players like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. The name Dalgona actually originated from South Korea. Apart from all the delish tit-bits available in South Korea for foodies, there are these famous South Korean toffees that have a sponge-like texture and taste just like sugar toffee.

Dalgona coffee is just that, minus the baking.

How do we make Dalgona Coffee?

It’s pretty easy! For Indians who love to whisk their coffee before brewing, making Dalgona coffee is as simple as ABC. Notice the frothy coffee mixture on top? It is a result of whipping coffee, sugar and hot water in equal quantities till it becomes airy yet stiff.

How does a Dalgona Coffee taste?

HEAVEN! Apart from being appealing to the eyes, the coffee is super light and foamy when you drink it. You can serve it cold with cold milk or have it on top of hot milk (if you love a latte, just like me!)

The entire process of making Dalgona Coffee is quite soothing to watch. Especially if you have a husband who does most of the whipping. πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜€

Recipe for the most trending TikTok Dalgona Coffee

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp Coffee I used BRU Premix. Available at wholesale stores that sell coffee for cafes.
  • 4 tbsp Sugar
  • 4 tbsp Hot Water
  • 2 cups Cold Milk Cow Milk or Almond Milk

Instructions

  1. Start by mixing coffee, sugar and water in the ratio of 1:1:1 in a medium-size mixing bowl

  2. Once you notice that the coffee granules and sugar granules have melted, start whisking the mixture using a hand whisker or a blender

  3. First, start mixing at a lower speed until everything is dissolved together properly and you start noticing a change in the colour of the mixture

  4. You are required to whisk the mixture for about 2 minutes or 30 to 40 seconds more, till you get stiff peaks and a foamy mixture

  5. Once you noticed stiff peaks, you can keep the mixture aside to start assembling your coffee

  6. In a cup or glass, take cold milk and add some ice cubes

  7. Use an ice cream scooper or a kitchen tablespoon to scoop the coffee mixture on top of the milk

  8. You can even Sprinkle the top of the Dalgona coffee with cinnamon, nutmeg or chocolate powder.

  9. Serve the beautiful looking coffee and enjoy after mixing it together with a spoon to make a latte

  10. Trust me, the foamy milk and coffee will taste a bomb together!

Recipe Notes

While I posted this picture on Instagram, I came across a couple of questions that I would like to answer, here. These questions are related to the process of making a Dalgona coffee at home.

Do I only need to use instant coffee?
No. The choice of coffee depends on you. You can use instant coffee or you can also use drip coffee. However, the method of making Dalgona Coffee will be different using a drip coffee.

I don’t eat a lot of sugar. Can I reduce the amount?
The quantity of sugar you wish to take depends on you. I used half the amount of sugar that is mentioned in the recipe. However, using half the amount of sugar will give you soft peaks with dark coloured coffee.

Can I make coffee with hot milk instead of cold milk?
Yes. I did the same. I made the Dalgona coffee at home using hot milk instead of cold milk.

I have leftover coffee mixture. What can I do?
You can easily store the left coffee mixture in the refrigerator for a couple of days. It will be best to use it in 2 to 3 days, since, the mixture will start becoming watery.
